Learning, Teaching and Assessment

The Institute may offer courses using various modes of delivery (e.g. classroom based, on-line, distance and blended learning). However, for international/overseas learners, face-to-face learning and teaching is compulsory for a full-time study load.

Course delivery at the Institute combines theory-based tutorial and practical sessions involving small groups, individual and team activities, and demonstrations using simulated work environments.

Assessment, procedures and criteria will be made clear to all learners. In general, assessment methods include: individual and group performance and presentation, oral and written tests, demonstrations and other classroom-based activities.

Assessing learner performance will be conducted in accordance with the Institute’s assessment guidelines and have regard to validity, reliability, fairness and flexibility and will provide learners with regular feedback on their progress.

If learners are unhappy with a result on any assessment task, they can lodge a formal appeal in accordance with the Institute re-assessment policy, details of which appear in the Learner Handbook.

Most of the Institute’s academic and teaching staff use multi-media for visual aids during their classes. Computers and printers are available in laboratories and the library/resource centre for use including internet research and for completing assignments.
